Dreaming Across Time and Space, Tie Li Exhibit, Feb. 11 - March 15

The Lane Community College Art Gallery is proud to present the exhibition, Dreaming Across Time and Space, by Portland artist, Tie Li. Tie Li works in a combination of painting and mixed media. His work is reflective of the past and he uses found imagery to convey this reference.

“To me, sometime art making is a process of turning yourself inside out. It’s not easy to face reality, which often is not pleasant or beautiful. But, as long as you are being truthful to yourself, your idea and your dream, thought courage and effort, you may turn your dream into reality, this process itself is beautiful.”

The show runs from February 11th to March 15th. A brief lecture will take place on Thursday, February 14th, beginning at 3:00 with a reception immediately following. The lecture and reception are free and open to the public. The gallery is located in Building 11 on the main campus of Lane Community College, 4000 E. 30th Avenue. There is no charge for admission. The Art and Applied Design Department phone number is 541-463-5409.

Laura Ahola-Young: Padromes

Cascade Gallery at Portland Community College-Cascade Campus, presents watercolor paintings by Laura Ahola-Young, instructor in the Art Department at Lane Community College.  The exhibit dates are February 28 – April 4, 2013.

Opening Reception: Thursday, February 28, 2013, 4:00 – 6:00 pm at  Terrell Hall 102, PCC Cascade Campus. Artist Talk: Thursday, February 28, 2013, 6:10 – 7:00 pm, at the Moriarty Arts and Humanities Building (MAHB) room 223, PCC Cascade Campus. Gallery Hours: 9 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday

Cascade Gallery presents watercolor paintings by Eugene-based artist Laura Ahola-Young. Inspired by fleeting and destructive aspects of our biological world, Ahola-Young reworks her paintings’ surfaces with glazes and scraping in order to reflect history and memory of a structure. Within layers of paint and represented spaces, she reveals fleeting warnings - prodromes – as in early symptoms indicating the attack of a disease. She says, “When painting, I am actively creating while simultaneously destroying. . . . My work reflects my desire for absolutes and claims none.”

Originally from Minnesota, Ahola-Young received a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design and MFA from San Jose State University. She teaches art at Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon.
