Rob Adams - Emerging Artists Portable Works Show

The Seattle Public Utilities - Emerging Artists Portable Works show will run from January 6 to March 31, then the works will be displayed on a rotating basis around public buildings in Seattle. The exhibit will be at the Seattle Municipal Tower Gallery, 700 Fifth Avenue, Level Three Concourse, in Seattle. The Exhibit will show 32 artwork by 24 emerging Northwest artists, including paintings, etchings, photography, sculpture, and mix media recently purchased by Seattle Public Utilities for its Portable Works Collection.

The Seattle Public Utilities has purchased one of Rob Adams paintings as part of their "Emerging Artists Purchase." The purchased piece, "Radula" is part of a series of that address theorists Roland Barthes and Jacques Lacans ideas on the construction of language, culture, and self. In a departure from Adams' previous works using fragments of found images, here he appropriated from parts of his own older works. "Radula" is taken from his 2005 painting "Strait." The title refers to a snails tongue, inspired by his undergraduate study of zoology, and is an embrace of the Rorschach Test effect of abstract paintings on individual perception.
