Monique Janssen-Belitz, "Unfolding Dreams", Jan. 7 - Feb. 7

The Lane Community College Art Gallery is proud to present the exhibition, Unfolding Dreams, by well-traveled artist, Monique Janssen-Belitz, who currently resides and teaches in Crete, Nebraska.

“My life is a collection of landscapes, colored by atmosphere and eloquent light. Immersed in the awareness of the transience of life and illusory promises of happiness, the land always offers more, something beyond eternity, beyond hope and beyond disappointments. In landscapes that are so huge you could lose yourself in them; becoming an inconsequential speck of dust as part of a larger-than-life orchestra celebrating the joy of nature. Variety inside repetition; multiples generate textures; textures morph into forms; forms create depth. This inter-connectedness mirrors the forces, which shaped the land over time. Its geological genesis etched the surface as did the ebb and flow of cultural sediment and weathered erosion.”

The show runs from January 7th to February 7th. A lecture will take place on Thursday, January 17th, beginning at 3:00 with a reception immediately following. The lecture and reception are free and open to the public. The gallery is located in building 11 on the main campus of Lane Community College, 4000 E. 30th Avenue. Eugene, OR. There is no charge for admission. The Art and Applied Design Department phone number is 541-463-5409.

Zina Mussmann, "Under the Sun", Jan. 7 - Feb. 7

The Lane Community College Art Gallery is proud to present the exhibition, Under the Sun, by mid-western artist, Zina Mussmann.

Zina Mussmann was born in Milwaukee and received a BFA in Painting and Drawing from UWM's Peck School of the Arts in 2002. She went on to complete her MFA in Painting at Northern Illinois University in 2008. Zina has exhibited nationally in cities including Milwaukee, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Sacramento, and Chicago. Her work was recently featured in the Manifest International Painting Annual 1, which was published in late 2011. Currently, Zina is the Co-Director of greymatter, an artist run initiative that she established in 2011 with artist Rachel Quirk.

“My process involves the collection and appropriation of images and words from various ephemera, such as photographs, documents and film. I am interested in de-contextualizing this information and re-contextualizing it into mixed media works. These new constructions are a hybrid of drawing, painting, and collage that create ambiguous meanings which complicate understanding. I allow the work to exist in a state of absurdity by choosing to exclude certain information that is vital to the interpretation of the images. The work becomes more about questions than answers and alludes to the fact that, as humans, we can never really find real truth, only temporary conclusions. That really, there is nothing new under the sun.”

The show runs from January 7th to February 7th. The gallery is located in building 11 on the main campus of Lane Community College, 4000 E. 30th Avenue, Eugene, OR. There is no charge for admission. The Art and Applied Design Department phone number is 541-463-5409.
