Until Now - Student Technicians Exhibit, May 4-21

The Lane Community College Art Gallery is proud to present Until Now, an exhibition featuring sculptor Amelia Beiderwell and ceramic artist Stacy Jo Scott, from May 4 through 21. There will be a lecture and reception on Thursday, May 14 at 3 p.m. in the gallery.

When asked what she creates within her work, Beiderwell says, "making creates language within the relationship of form and its audience by capturing a moment and suspending it in time."

Scott describes her work as "both functional and sculptural ceramic practice." She explores layers of meaning and narrative. "I relate imagery though surface drawings from my own experience in the iconic and disjointed schema of memory or dream."

ARC: Sculpture of LCC Faculty & Students Exhibit, May 8-June 13

The Jacobs Gallery presents an exhibition titled ARC: The Sculpture of LCC Faculty and Students - May 8 -June 13. Artists in the exhibition are Kate Ali, Amelia Beiderwell, Lee Imonen, Laree Morgenstern, Virgil Newton, Andreas Salzman, Eric Schults, Deborah Taube, and Ellen Tykeson.

The Artists' Insight Gallery Talk will be held on Friday, May 8, 3:30 - 4:30 pm.

The Opening Reception will be on Friday, May 8, 5:30-8:30 pm.

The exhibit will be one of the stops on the Lane Arts Council First Friday ArtWalk on Friday, June 5, 5:30-8:30 pm.

The Jacobs Gallery is located on the lower level of the Hult Center in downtown Eugene. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday, noon to 4:00 pm; Saturday, 11:00 am-3:00 pm; and one hour prior to and during all Hult Center performances. STRATA - Art Exhibit at BRING Recycling, April 29-May 29

STRATA is a collaborative, cross-disciplinary project developed through the ArtsWork in Education partnership between Lane Community College (art instructor Kristie Johnson) and Kelly Middle School (teachers Martha Montgomery and Sarah Ruggiero). This collaborative work of art was produced by over 50 middle school students and focuses on the impact of humans on the earth and the earth on humans.

STRATA will be part the Art Exhibit at the BRING Recycling Gallery, April 29 to May 29. It is part of BRING's Earth Day Art Celebration. An opening reception will be held on May 2, 2pm -4 pm. The Gallery is located at 4446 Franklin Blvd., in Eugene. http://www.bringrecycling.org/gallery.html

Drive By Press at Lane, April 27-28

Drive by Press, a mobile printmaking studio, will offer a printmaking workshop at Lane on April 27-28, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. Their van will be on the east side of the cafeteria next to Building 11. There will be a public lecture in the Performance Hall on Tuesday, April 28, 3:00-5:00 pm.

Operating from the back of a van, Drive By Press travels around the country conducting workshops, delivering lectures, and demonstrating printing techniques including woodcut, etching, lithography, serigraphy, and collograph. The Lane Art Gallery is pleased to announce the LCC Juried Student Art Exhibition, April 13 - 30. Reception: April 22, 3:00-4:00 pm. Copper Engraving - Printmaking Workshop - May 9-10

Printmaker John Salang will present a Copper Engraving Printmaking Workshop, May 9-10, in the LCC Printmaking Studio.

John Saling began studying printmaking in 1964 and has focused on engravings for the last 30 years. John’s work reflects his dramatic and structural use of line. Textures spring from direct work on the plate. "Each edition that I produce reflects a chosen engraving method, a type and combination of lines, and a specific size, all part of the considered vocabulary for a particular image." He is a graduate of Cornish School of Allied Arts in Seattle, WA., and has attended The Society of Arts and Crafts in Detroit, MI., and Pratt Graphic Art Center in New York City.

In this workshop John will demonstrate engraving, show original prints in a number of styles, and present a condensed history of the technique. We will review the use of engraving tools. Burins will be sized to individual users and sharpened in preparation to engrave on copper plates. This class will prepare students to create and develop their own engravings. During the workshop, students will design, create and print their own engraving from a copper plate.

The workshop will be held on May 9-10, 9:00 am -4:00 pm, in the Printmaking Studio, Building 10, Room 200 on the LCC main campus, 4000 East 30th Avenue, Eugene, OR 97405. The cost is $60 for LCC students and staff, $90 for community members, with a $30 materials fee.

Scholarships are available sponsored by the Canaga-Lawrence Scholarship.

Fiber Art - Felting Exhibit of Student Work

Student work from Robin Seloover's Fiber Art art class, winter term, 2009, is on display. In the winter term the class focused on felting techniques - everything from hand felting to Nuno felting and decorative accents like needle felting and shibori. The students' final projects, many fantastic works of art, are display in the alcove of the Art Department, Building 11. You will be amazed at all the different outcomes the students have created using wool, imagination and the skills we learned.
