Perceptions of the Past - J.S. Bird, May 20-June 27

Perceptions of the Past: Celebrating Oregon's Sesquicentennial will be at the Fire House Gallery at Rogue Community College in Grants Pass, May 20 through June 27. Lane instructor J.S. Bird will be one of thirteen artists whose work will be on display; he will give a talk about his painting techniques and the development of his work at an Artist's Talk on May 21, 11:30 a.m.

In celebration of Oregon's 150th anniversary of statehood, this exhibit features a statewide collaboration of Oregon artists and writers and their contemporary interpretations of Oregon's past. Thirteen historical photographs were selected from the collections of the Josephine County Historical Society. Thirteen professional writers interpreted each of the photographs, and then each of the thirteen professional artists created a piece of artwork based solely on the written description.

The Perceptions of the Past exhibit consists of a framed enlargement of each historical photo matched with the written description and the artist's interpretation. The Fire House Gallery is located in the Historical City Hall at Fourth and H Streets in Grants Pass, Oregon. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday, 11:30 am-4:30 pm and Saturday 10 am-1 pm. For more information contact the gallery at www.roguecc.edu/Galleries or at (541) 956-7339.
