Mezzotint Workshop with Ryan O'Malley, May 15-16

The next printmaking workshop will be "Mezzotint" taught by Ryan O'Malley from Drive by Press. The workshop is on May 15-16 (Saturday and Sunday,) 9:00 am-4:00 pm in the LCC Printmaking Studio, Building 10/Room 200.

Mezzotint engraving is a drypoint intaglio process that emphasizes tone in order to create images rich in value and depth. For this two-day workshop students will learn the basics of mezzotint engraving in black and white. We will cover place preparation, rocking, scraping and burnishing, alternative techniques, tool care, inking, wiping, and printing. Students are expected to come prepared with necessary tools and imagery to translate from paper to metal.

Ryan O'Malley received his MFA from Louisiana State University in 2005 and is currently teaching mezzotint workshops and touring the U.S. with Drive by Press. http://www.flickr.com/photos/ryanomalley/collections/
