WOOD ENGRAVING - a Printmaking Workshop with Paul Gentry will be offered on November 1-2 (Saturday and Sunday), 9:00-4:00, at the Lane Community College Printmaking Studio in Building 10, Room 200.
In the workshop, students will design, engrave and print their own original wood engravings. Students will learn the techniques and history of wood engraving and how it differs from conventional woodcut. "Black line" and "white line" design and image transfer techniques will be covered. Students will be able to experiment with different engraving tools to achieve a variety of marks. Engravings will be printed using a press as well as by hand burnishing.
Paul Gentry is a full-time printmaker, painter, and mixed media artist who is also an owner/partner of the River Gallery in Independence, Oregon. Since 2001 he has specialized in wood engraving, concentrating mostly on depicting the rural landscape surrounding his home and studio in Independence.
