Kathleen Caprario in Mayor's Art Show

Kathleen Caprario, instructor in Lane's Art and Applied Design Department, has a work in the 2011 Mayor's Art Show: Celebrating Lane County Artists, August 25 - October 8 at the Jacobs Gallery.  Kathleen's collage and mixed media piece, titled "Lake Dreaming #5" received the 1st Juror's Choice Award by juror Karin Clarke.

Community College Moment

Kathleen Carprario and Kristie Potwora have two pieces of art in the current issue of Community College Moment, Volume 11, Spring 2011.  The theme for this years edition is "Recovery.

Carprario's work includes: 
Lake Dreaming 1, mixed media on paper, 28" x 53"
Lake Dreaming 3, mixed media on paper, 28" x 53"

Potwora's work includes:
Interference, silkscreen, 15" x 22"
Hangman, graphite, oil, beeswax on birch panel, 10" x 10"

Homage: The Artwork of Jim Ulrich - May 21 - June 25

Homage: the Artwork of James E. Ulrich will be presented by the Maude Kerns Art Center in Eugene, Oregon from May 21 to June 25. Over thirty of James' emotive and visionary works in oils and pastel will be displayed showing the breadth and depth of his studio practice. A reception will be held on Friday, May 21, 6-8 pm. A panel discussion is tentatively planned for Saturday, May 22.

Kathleen Caprario - OSU Art Faculty Exhibit

Kathleen Caprario has a painting in the OSU Art Faculty Exhibit at the Fairbanks Gallery. The exhibit will run until October 7 when there will be a closing reception at 4:30-6:00 pm. Caprario teaches drawing, color, and painting at Lane Community College, Oregon State University, and the University of Oregon.

Kathleen Caprario - Working Vacation

Kathleen Caprario was featured in an article in Eugene's Register-Guard about her three-week artist's retreat at Morris Graves' former studioin northern California. Caprario described how her retreat started out intimidating, but soon turned productive. She spent the three weeks drawing, sketching, painting, walking near the lake, and writing in her journal.

The article, titled "Working Vacation" appeared in the August 27 issue of the Register-Guard. Caprario teaches drawing, color, and painting at Lane Community College, Oregon State University, and the University of Oregon.

Kathleen Caprario in All Oregon Art Annual Exhibiton

Kathleen Caprario, instructor in the Art Department, has a painting titled "Echo" in the All Oregon Art Annual Exhibition at the Corvallis Art Center. This is a statewide exhibition intended to demonstrate the quality and diversity of fine art produced in Oregon. Caprario's piece received a juror's award from the juror, Nancy Lindberg.

The exhibition is open October 2-30, Tuesdays-Saturdays, noon to 5:00 pm. The Corvallis Art Center is located at 700 SW Madison Avenue in Corvallis, (541) 754-1551. For more information, contact Caprario at 463-5775.

Caprario & Lowdermilk Studios in Photo Exhibit

LCC instructors Kathleen Caprario and Susan Lowdermilk are featured in Widescreen, an exhibit of panoramic color photographs taken by Dennis Galloway in the studios of various Eugene area artists and crafters. A photograph of printmaker and book artist Susan Lowdermilk in her studio was featured in an article about the exhibit in the September 19 issue of The Register-Guard.

Kathleen Caprario and her studio is also featured in the exhibit. The Register-Guard said that Caprario's "home studio is filled with books, and you can read the titles. It will come as no surprise to anyone who knows her work that a lot of them are about Byzantine art.

Ths exhibit, Widescreen, will be on the second floor of the Eugene Public Library through October 31.

Spirited Journey: Women Artists - February 22 - March 21

Maude Kerns Art Center presents Spirited Journey: Women Artists from February 22 to March 22. The exhibit features work by Kathleen Caprario, on the art faculty at LCC, Bets Cole, Annette Furdjian, Wendy Huhn, and Betsy Wolfston. The opening reception will be on Friday, February 22, 6:00-8:00 pm.

Kathleen writes in her Artist Statement, titled Confluence, "The paintings presented are part of a series initiated at a month-long artist residency at the Jentel Foundation in Northeast Wyoming; the beautifully rugged and ever-changing landscape of the area served as both observational and conceptual inspiration. ... The process of reflective spontaneity evidenced in the work suggests a confluence -- those areas being transition zones between control and chaos."
