LCC Mural Thank You Party

In appreciation for all of the school, student and community volunteer and support in making this vision into a reality, we are celebrating the completion of the LCC Mural:  A Cultural Landscape.  The party will be on Thursday, September 27, 4-6 pm in front of the mural on Buliding 5 (Health/PE) on the main campus of Lane Community College, 4000 East 30th Avenue, Eugene, OR.

Tom Madison and Mural on KVAL-TV

Tom Madison and graphic design students have been working on a mural called "A Cultural Landscape" for the past two months.  The mural project was featured in a story on KVAL-TV on November 4.

The Art on Campus committee announces that Lane Community College will be receiving some color on campus this summer in a big way. A mural designed by artist and Lane instructor, Tom Madison, will be painted on Building 5 by students under the instruction of Mr. Madison. The mural is being executed as an art class, beginning August 15. The design celebrates the diverse cultural landscape of the college, the United States, and the world at large, in an abstract and symbolic way.

The mural was approved through the college's established art review process with funding for materials provided primarily through the President's fund and The Lane Foundation. Health & Wellness Banners by Tom Madison

Tom Madison, Graphic Design instructor, has designed nine banners for the new Health and Wellness Building.  Tom worked with the Dean of Health Professions, the Foundation Director, the President's Office and the architects to conceptualize what would look good as celebratory banners for the grand opening on September 23. The banners will also be used for recruiting and other functions as they list the various professions certified through the Health Professions department. The nine banners measure 3 x 7 feet each. They were created using a process called "dye sublimation," where heat transfers ink printed onto a paper substrate right into the nylon of a fabric banner. They each come with their own stand.

Red Sea Murals - Lecture by Tom Madison

Graphic designer and instructor, Tom Madison, will be giving a multi-media presentation on his execution of large scale murals on the inside and outside of a palace on the Red Sea Coast of Saudi Arabia. The lecture will be held in the LCC Art Gallery on February 17 at 4:00 pm. The Art Gallery is located in Building 11 on the main campus of Lane Community College. Tom Madison - Lecture - Mural in Saudi Arabia - May 27

Tom Madison, a faculty member of the Art and Applied Design Department, travelled to Saudi Arabia Winter term and performed 10,000 square feet of murals on a private marina and aquarium located on the Red Sea coast. The murals depicted marine life from places the client had travelled and explored in an effort to do research for an ocean conservation foundation that the client founded.

Madison will be giving a lecture on the design and execution of the murals, complete with digital images and video, including video footage of the site being hit by a sandstorm. The project was faced with many unique challenges and employed digital technology that aided in the design and execution of such a large canvas.
