Carrie O'Coyle Woodblock Print in Mayor's Art Show

Carrie O'Coyle (Richenberg)'s wooodblock print, "Fish in the Wave" has been selected for the 2010 Mayor's Art Show. "Fish in the Wave" is a four-color woodblock print. It is a nishiki-e, a Japanese multi-colored woodblock print; this style of printing was invented in the 1760's.

The Mayor's Art Show runs from August 26 to October 16 and is sponsored by the Jacobs Gallery in the Hult Center. The gallery is open Tuesday-Friday, noon-4pm; Saturday, 11am - 3pm; and one hour prior to and during all Hult Center performances. For information: http://www.jacobsgallery.org/

Spherical Paintings Exhibit - Carrie O'Coyle - 5/29-7/25

Spherical Paintings, Convex Paintings & Prints is an exhibit of works by Lane instructor Carrie O'Coyle Richenberg. The ehxibit is at the HUB-Robeson Gallery at Pennsylvania State University, May 29 through July 25. A reception will be held on July 9, 4-6 pm.

Carrie O’Coyle’s "bio-spheres" are convex and spherical paintings that explore time and memory, loneliness, family and loss. Only a third of the surface of these paintings may be viewed at one time, so the viewer must hold the memory of each part of the image in their mind in order to consider the work as a whole. O'Coyle began making these paintings 30 years ago at Penn State while studying with Kenneth Biddle. She currently teaches drawing, painting and applied design at Lane Community College and the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon.

O'Coyle's exhibit is part of All in the Family: Three Generations of Artists which includes Wild Life in Pennsylvania, work by her mother, D.M.Z. "Ziggy" Coyle, and Prints, work by her 9-year-old daughter, Opal Naomi Richengerg.
