Gabriella Soraci in First Street Gallery, NYC

A painting, Wooden Box on Table (2010), by Gabriella Soraci has been selected for inclusion in this years' National Juried Exhibition at First Street Gallery in New York City.  This exhibition runs from June 21-July 14 with a reception on June 23, 3-5 pm.

Gabriella Soraci is an instructor at Lane Community College where she teaches drawing, painting, and color design.  The Wooden Box on Table (Bottom of Box), 2010, Oil on Canvas, 20" x 16", was made at the Millay Colony for the Arts, September 2010.

Critical Thinking through Drawing; Responding to the 2010 Haitian Earthquake

An online art auction of student work from Art 131, Spring Term 2012 (Instructed by Gabriella Soraci), will be held to help the charity group RandomActs.org in raising funds to build a children's center/orphanage in Haiti this summer.

“The goal (for the Final Project) is to understand how we can use the visual language of drawing to effectively communicating our thoughts, feelings, and ideas. The ongoing effort to help the people of Haiti rebuild from the 2010 earthquake will be our chosen subject to respond to. At the end of the project the drawings will be collected by a volunteer with the non-profit charity group, Random Acts.org, for an online auction. The proceeds of which will go to help build an orphanage/child center in Haiti this summer.... Learning how to gather and filter information and make wise visual choices is part of learning to think critically and is a large part of the project. "

The auction will begin Monday June 11th and last for two weeks. Winning bidders will be contacted after the auction ends.

You can bid on the artwork by posting a comment on the image post for the selected work you are interested in. Payment can be made through PayPal, with either a local pickup or shipping to an address within the USA. All proceeds will go to RandomActs.org (minus shipping fees).

MERGE: Graphic Design Student Show, May 29-June 14

The Lane Community College Art Gallery is proud to present the annual Graphic Design Graduation Exhibition. This exhibition will feature many interesting and varied portfolio pieces submitted by the graduating students of the Graphic Design Program.

The show runs from May 29th through June 14th. A reception will be held on Wednesday, June 13th, from 4-6 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. "balance" - Anna Stehle and Justin Stuck - May 7-24

The Lane Community College Art Gallery is proud to present “balance”, a two-person show featuring artists and Lane Community College Studio Technicians, Justin Stuck and Anna Stehle. Justin works in the sculpture studio and Anna works in the ceramics studio within the Department of Art and Applied Design. The exhibition consists of both sculpture and ceramics, along with installation work.

When asked about her current work for this exhibition, Anna stated, “Finding a balance between my love of making pots and the countless daily events in my life has been a struggle over the last couple of years. With family, work, friends and all that goes along with that, pottery has taken a back seat. I have come into this new chapter in my life with pottery gradually, seeking a balance along the way.”

Justin says his work is being “drawing from my personal experiences I hope to tap into “something honest and real”, which translates universally, “the reality of human experience,” to others.”

The show runs from May 7th to May 24th. A lecture featuring both artists will be held on May 10th at 3:00 pm with a reception immediately following. PRODROMES: Paintings by Laura Ahola-Young

PRODROMES: Paintings by Laura Ahola-Young will be on display in the Fireplace Gallery at Mt. Hood Community College, April 3-26. Laura teaches Basic Design and Drawing in the Art and Applied Department at LCC. The Gallery is open M-Th, 8 am to 7 pm and Friday 8 am to 5 pm. MHCC is located at 260000 SE Stark St. in Greshem, Oregon.

League of Innovation Winners

 

We have sumitted the work of five students for the League of Innovation Competition. We  will keep everyone posted as our students move through the national competition.

Candice Westberg:  "I enjoy the moment when viewers realize that those aren’t living birds that adorn my pot. It opens a dialogue that allows me to share their stories. This piece features thirteen bird species that were brought to extinction by man’s direct involvement. It is my attempt at honoring their lives."

Daniel Balter:  My preferred medium is oil paint. I first create an under painting to establish the values then I use a series of colored glazes over the under painting; this is the same technique that was used by the Old Masters. I use direct observation and my imagination to create images that include vintage, tin toy robots and Japanese vinyl monsters. My paintings explore universal themes such as love and heartbreak, isolation and alienation, domestic violence and triumph in the face of fear. 

 

Douglas Wiltshire "Evolutionary Pull":  It is my contention that Art represents feeling. That is a powerful thing, to invoke passion and the desire to make things better. Evolutionary Pull is an exploration of our connection to our primal selves and how our past affects our present. 

Oktober Comstock: “Reflections” is a self-portrait. Not many people like to do self-portraits; perhaps as an artist or even a human being it becomes difficult to document what we see in the mirror. But I think that it is important to be willing to dive deeper into our reflection and attempt to understand what makes us tick.

Ramey McAlezander: I didn’t set out with a real theme for my paintings. I think this is reflection of my inner thoughts. I am always expressing my unspoken words through my paintings. I can’t say where my art is going but I do know I will continue to learn and grow as an artist. I think there is an endless quest in art.

LCC Juried Student Art Exhibition, April 19-May 3

LCC Art Gallery is proud to present the Juried Student Art Exhibition. This exhibition will be held from April 16th to May 3rd. There will be a reception on Thursday, April 19th from 4:00pm to 5:00pm.

The LCC Juried Student Art Show is an exhibition showcasing the best of our current LCC art students. Our students have created all the work on display during the past academic year.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank this year’s juror, Betsy Wolfston. Betsy is a local ceramics artist whose public works can be seen throughout the city of Eugene. Her work defines helps to define our community.
