LCC Mural Thank You Party

In appreciation for all of the school, student and community volunteer and support in making this vision into a reality, we are celebrating the completion of the LCC Mural:  A Cultural Landscape.  The party will be on Thursday, September 27, 4-6 pm in front of the mural on Buliding 5 (Health/PE) on the main campus of Lane Community College, 4000 East 30th Avenue, Eugene, OR.

LCC Art & Art Design Faculty Exhibition, Sept. 24-Oct. 11


The Lane Community College Art Gallery is proud to present our annual fall exhibit by the Art and Applied Design Faculty.  The exhibition will include a wide variety of media by both the full-time and part-time instructors. The faculty has been asked to share work that exemplifies their art careers.

The show runs from September 24th through October 11th. A reception will be held on Thursday, October 4th, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. The galleries are located in building 11 on LCC's main campus, 4000 E. 30th Avenue, Eugene, Oregon. There is no charge for admission. Creativity Vending Machine - "Art-o-Mat"

An article titled "Creativity -Vending Machine" about LCC's Art-o-Mat appeared in the September 7 issue of the Eugene Register-Guard. Written by Joel Gorthy with photographs by Collin Andrew, the article begins "Art-o-Mats, made from revamped vintage cigarette machines, dispense little doses of original art for just $5.  Oregon's first one remains at LCC."  Susan Lowdermilk brought the vending machine to Lane after seeing one on a trip to the East Coast.  LCC has hosted the Art-o-Mat since 2005; it is located next to the art gallery and Art Department office in Building 11 on Lane's main campus.  Check out the complete article at:

Susie Morrill - Cuban Photographs


Susie Morrill: Tan cerca, tan lejos: Cuban Photographs.  Twenty photographs taken in Cuba by LCC photography instructor Susie Morrill will be on exhibit at Dot Dotson's from September 14 to October 11.  The exhibit is titled "Tan cerca, tan lejos :so near, so far apart".  A reception will be held on September 14, 5:00-6:00 pm. Dot Dotson's is located at 1668 Willamette St. in Eugene, Oregon.

The photos shown here are "Farmer with Ox" and "Plaza de San Francisco."

Mayor's Art Show

Too Much Information appeared in the September 6th issue of Eugene Register-Guard. Written by Bob Keefer, the newspaper's arts reporter, the article reviews the current Mayor's Art Show at the Jacobs Gallery.  Works of art by several LCC Art and Applied Arts faculty are in the show:  Jeff Goolsby, Dan Schmitt, Jan Halvorsen, Susan Lowdermilk, Talmadge Doyle and student Eve Takahashi.  Keefer wrote about the deep appeal of Jeff Goolsby's "Conflict Management" and about Eve Takahashi's photograph of former student Carter.  Susan Lowdermilk and Talmadge Doyle's artist book "Aviary" is "wonderful for its sheer, drop-dead gorgeous etching and perfect craftsmanship."   The complete article is available at the Register-Guard's website:  http://www.registerguard.com/web/entertainmentarts/28693088-57/art-mayor-artist-painting-statements.html.csp.

Dan Schmitt & Jan Halvorsen win awards in Mayor's Art Show

Congratulations to Dan Schmitt and Jan Halvorsen who have won awards in the 2012 Mayor's Art Show at the Jacobs Gallery. 

Dan Schmitt, who teaches ceramics, received a Juror's Award for his pottery "Slipped Jar with Dots."  Jan Halvorsen, who teaches in Media Arts, received the Artistic Director's Award for "Something Quiet," a pastel drawing on paper.
Contratulations to other faculty members whose work was accepted into this juried show:  Tallmadge Doyle, Susan Lowdermilk, Jefferson Goolsby, and student Eve Takahashi.

The Jacobs Gallery is in the lower level of the Hult Center for the Performing Arts.  The Gallery is open Tuesday-Friday, 12-4 pm, Saturday 11 am - 3 pm, and one hour prior to and during all Hult Center performances.  It is located  between 6th and 7th Avenues and Olive and Willamette Streets in downtown Eugene, Oregon.

Mayor's Art Show, Aug. 23-Oct. 6

Works by LCC Art and Media Arts faculty have been selected for the 2012 Mayor's Art Show at the Jacobs Gallery at the Hult Center in Eugene.  The show celebrates Lane County artists.  Faculty members Tallmadge Doyle, Susan Lowdermilk, and Dan Schmitt, as well as former student Eve Takahashi are from the Art Department; Jan Halvorsen and Jefferson Goolsby are from the Media Arts Department.

The Awards Presentation and Opening Reception is on August 23 from 5:30 pm. The community will be able to vote for their choice during the Eugene Celebration, August 24-26, with the Viewer's Choice Award to be presented at the First Friday ArtWalk on September 7.

The Jacobs Gallery is in the lower level of the Hult Center for the Performing Arts located between 6th and 7th Avenues and Olive and Willamette Streets in downtown Eugene.  Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday, 12-4 pm, Saturday 11 am - 3 pm, and one hour prior to and during all Hult Center performances.
