LASA News - Sale and Field Trip

LASA - Lane Art Students Association - Annual Art Sale of student work.  November 29 - December 1, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, in the Cafeteria.  For details on how to submit your work or if you would like to help with the sale, contact LASA at:  lcc.lasa@gmail.com or the Art and Applied Design office at 463-5409.

In Formation: Anne Godfrey and Rob Adams, Nov. 15 - Dec. 2

The Lane Community College Art Gallery is proud to present “In Formation”, a two-person show featuring artists and Lane Community College faculty members, Anne Godfrey and Rob Adams. Anne Godfrey teaches photography and drawing and Rob Adams teaches painting and design within the Department of Art and Applied Design. The exhibition consists of both photography and painting.

When asked about what inspires her photography, Anne stated, “I drift with the camera, creating layered images while walking through both new and familiar places. These images transcend a static pictorial representation of landscape space creating a sense of movement and time, more closely representing my psychological and physical experiences.”

In discussing his approach to his work, Rob stated, “I distill images into simpler fields of color, reflecting the way art, through graphic design, has helped reduce the world into marketable products. The simplification of concepts into shared symbols and icons has always intrigued me. Humor and an appreciation of the absurd are vital to me.”

The show runs from November 15th through December 2nd. A lecture featuring both artists will be held on November 18th at 3:00 pm with a reception immediately following at 4:00.

The gallery is located in building 11 on the main campus of Lane Community College, 4000 E. 30th Avenue in Eugene, Oregon. There is no charge for admission. The Art and Applied Design Department phone number is 463-5409.

Artist Books and Pop-Up Class

New class for Winter term!  Artist Books and Pop-up, will be offered in the Winter term by Susan Lowdermilk.  Learn to design and construct a variety of basic folded and stitched book structures and learn pop-up techniques in this Winter term course. The curriculum focuses on design process development, conceptual development and typographic layout. You will also learn the history of the book form throughout the world, movable books, and artist's books.

Eric Fracassi - "Saturdays and Some Days" in Art Gallery

The Lane Community College Art Gallery is proud present the exhibition, Saturdays and Some Days by Michigan artist, Eric Fracassi. The exhibition is a recent body of work from Eric's ongoing "Recollection Series".

 

When asked to describe his work, Fracassi stated: This work considers new relationships between the fluidity of a memory and the static images that are created in the final piece.  Childhood beliefs are explored through words, characters and images, and ultimately are exposed to new sensibilities.

 

The show runs from October 25^th through November 11^th. A reception will be held on Thursday, October 28^th, from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. LCC Library Art & Art History Guide

LCC Library's Art & Art History Guide has been featured as one of "the best and coolest" Library Guides. The Best of LibGuides  (part of Springshare which creates web applications for libraries and educational institutions) recognizes quality library guides and shares them as excellent examples for other libraries.

Librarians Claire Dannenbaum and Don Macnaughtan created the Art & Art History Research Guide to help students research topics in art and art history in the LCC Library.  The Guide includes resource assistance in areas such as:  Topics in Art and Art History, Books and DVDs, Journal Articles, Web Resources, Reference Resources, Citing Sources, and Images. Health & Wellness Banners by Tom Madison

Tom Madison, Graphic Design instructor, has designed nine banners for the new Health and Wellness Building.  Tom worked with the Dean of Health Professions, the Foundation Director, the President's Office and the architects to conceptualize what would look good as celebratory banners for the grand opening on September 23. The banners will also be used for recruiting and other functions as they list the various professions certified through the Health Professions department. The nine banners measure 3 x 7 feet each. They were created using a process called "dye sublimation," where heat transfers ink printed onto a paper substrate right into the nylon of a fabric banner. They each come with their own stand.
