"Body Into Clay" - In Memory of Tom Rohr

"Body Into Clay," an article in the current issue of The Studio Potter, was written by Lisa Favero in memory of Tom Rohr, former instructor in ceramics at Lane Community College.

Favero writes about Tom's pots: "To each and drink from them is to enter a terrain of pleasure and exploration, in pursuit, enroute to satisfaction. ... The obvious, fundamental action of Tom's work - the erasure of the boundary between pots and who we are -- he left us to experience ourselves. ... "A master potter because there was no boundary between his palm, his belly, his heart, and the clay, Tom died of a heart attack quickly, with the suddenness of a cup departing when it falls from the hand."

The article appears in The Studio Potter, Summer/Fall 2010, Vol. 38, No. 2, pp 12-15. www.studiopotter.org/ Photocopies of the article are posted in the Art and Applied Design Department office and in the Ceramics studio in Building 11 on the main campus of Lane Community College.
